Race and class combinations in WoW Forever
Class selection is constrained by your race, faction and access to special character options. Not every class is available to every race. Start by choosing a class role, then verify which races can play it.
Choosing your faction
If you intend to play with a guild or friends, coordinate faction before choosing a race. Choosing a class you love is less useful if your social group cannot play alongside your character.
Skyborne availability
Skyborne character options have additional pack eligibility requirements. Don't assume a recommended Skyborne character is available on a standard account; check the current game offer and eligibility before purchasing.
Use the actual compatibility matrix
The interactive chart on the homepage lists combinations, new unlocks, faction options, and paid-access indicators. The quiz also filters out combinations that do not match your stated restrictions.
Class first, race second
A race cannot be judged in isolation from its class. Decide the role and combat style you actually want, then filter to legal race/class choices. Our quiz can suggest multiple eligible races instead of claiming one is always optimal.
New combinations in Forever
Blizzard has announced Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman and Gnome Priest for the Alliance, and Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin for the Horde. These are important differences from the original game, so relying on an older Classic matrix can mislead players.
Skyborne requirements
Skyborne can join either faction, but have different extra class choices: Alliance-aligned Skyborne can be Mages and Horde-aligned Skyborne can be Shamans. Both share Druid, Hunter, Rogue and Warrior. Access requires the Heroic Pack or a higher qualifying edition.
What to do when your favorite race cannot play your class
Ask whether the class mechanics or racial identity matter more to you. If class is non-negotiable, choose a compatible race. If you care more about the race fantasy, compare its available classes and redo the quiz with that faction in mind.
Avoid assuming a race is mandatory for performance
Racial abilities and balance may matter in some contexts, but aesthetic and social preferences are legitimate priorities. Do not let a generic website present a race as your one perfect choice without current, mode-specific evidence.
