Normal, PvP, or Roleplay?

Forever asks you to select a ruleset instead of a traditional realm. This changes the type of encounters and community experience you should expect. The best choice is the one that fits your risk tolerance and the people you want to play with—not a universal “best server.”

How the four launch rulesets differ

Normal

Best starting place when you want to explore, quest and fight monsters without routinely being forced into world PvP. You may still choose to engage with PvP. This is often the safest default for first-time players who are unsure.

PvP

Choose this when unpredictable encounters with enemy-faction players are part of the excitement for you. You accept interruptions to questing, the possibility of being attacked at an inconvenient time, and the fun of spontaneous conflict.

Roleplay-PvP

Combines an immersive roleplay community with the dangers of open-world faction combat. Choose it only if you want both social roleplay conventions and spontaneous PvP.

Roleplay

Choose this if you're excited about inhabiting your character, following roleplay conventions, and participating in an immersive community. Blizzard describes stricter naming and behavior rules here.

What if my friends chose another ruleset?

Coordinate with your group before creating your main. Ruleset and faction decisions matter more than a minor personal preference if the point is to adventure together. Check Blizzard's current rules about moving between rulesets before assuming it will be simple.

Don't confuse ruleset with class

A stealth-focused player might enjoy PvP, but a Rogue is not required to play PvP. A healer might enjoy Roleplay or Normal equally. Use the class picker to choose how you fight, then choose a ruleset for how the world around you behaves.
