Do You Need to Buy WoW Forever? Access, Game Time and Skyborne
World of Warcraft: Forever launches November 4, 2026. You do not need to buy an optional Skyborne upgrade just to play a standard character. Blizzard says Forever requires an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time.
What access do I need?
To play Forever: an eligible World of Warcraft subscription or game time. Confirm your account's region, standing and eligibility in the Battle.net launcher.
To play Skyborne: Blizzard says a Heroic Pack or higher qualifying digital upgrade is required. The race starts on Zephras Isle; its available classes depend on faction.
To use a leveling addon: buying one is entirely optional; check release compatibility and coverage first.
Do I need a special edition?
Not to start an ordinary character. Premium editions have different extras and some include game time; verify the exact current contents on Blizzard's checkout page. Don't buy an upgrade until you know which perk you actually want.
What about the launch time?
Blizzard announced November 4 at 3 p.m. PST (23:00 UTC), which may be November 5 locally in parts of the world. The game goes live globally; check the official regional launch table.
Before you purchase anything
- Confirm that your Battle.net account can access Forever using your subscription or game time.
- Check whether the race you want actually requires the Skyborne pack.
- Coordinate your friends' faction and ruleset so you can play together.
- If considering a paid guide, verify faction and level-range coverage rather than assuming all routes are finished.
- Read each seller's terms, current prices, and refund policies.
